Grilled Cheese, Please!

 

Ah, there's nothing like a fresh take on an old classic. Today, we put our heads together to revolutionize the grilled cheese, and created our magnum opus: The Grilled Cheese, Please! Combining fresh cheddar crumbles, sautéed jalapeño, crispy bacon, our secret sauce, and Daily Kneads Carrot & Pumpkin Veggie Bread results in an unforgettable taste with every bite.

Ingredients:

  • 2 slices Daily Kneads Carrot & Pumpkin Vegetable Bread
  • 3 strips bacon
  • ½ cup crumbled sharp cheddar
  • ½ jalapeño sliced 
  • 2 tsp butter
  • 2-4 tbsp of cream cheese or crème fraîche
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Step 1:

Use a medium-size non-stick pan for the majority of the sandwich, but we recommend cooking bacon separately, unless you want a greasy sandwich! Cook or bake your bacon until fat is golden-brown on edges - or however you prefer your bacon! While it's still very hot, quickly set it aside and get ready for your next steps.

 

Step 2:

Wash and slice ½ a jalapeño. Add the butter to a clean medium-size non-stick pan, and turn heat to medium-high. As your butter melts, be sure to coat the bottom of the pan evenly. Next, add your jalapeño slices to the mostly-melted butter, and cook for 3 minutes. While the jalapeño cooks, lightly toast your grilled cheese.

Step 3:

Spoon your cream cheese into a small bowl, and use a spatula to lift out the jalapeño slices, leaving some butter coating the bottom of the pan. Add them on top of your cream cheese and mix thoroughly. Crushing the jalapeño lets out more of the flavor, and the heat from the peppers will make your cream cheese easy to spread. Grab your cheddar and get ready to combine.

 

Step 4:

Lay your Daily Kneads Carrot & Pumpkin Veggie Bread on a plate and spoon your cream cheese mixture onto one side of the bread, spreading evenly. Add your warm bacon, and then your cheddar crumbles last, with a quick dab of your cream cheese on the other slice of bread to help it all stick together. Come back to your buttered pan and turn heat to high (or if the butter is already browned, simply remain at the same temperature). Place your sandwich delicately in the center of the pan, flipping every 30 seconds -1 min. Let the butter soak into both sides of your toasted sandwich, while giving time for the cheese to melt. Once melted, remove and enjoy!
